“Jazz music is the power of now. There is no script. It’s conversation. The emotion is given to you by musicians as they make split-second decisions to fulfil what they feel the moment requires.” — Wynton Marsalis
According to Robert O’Meally, Director of the Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University, so much twentieth- and twenty-first-century art has been shaped by this genre that we could call the long twentieth "the jazz century."
And so we dedicate October's round of Art Trivia to this uniquely American musical medium and the myriad artworks attributed to it — whether they directly depict jazz, draw inspiration from it or just capture its improvisational spirit.
As usual, the multiple choice questions will be fun for all attendees and answers will be anonymous. So fix yourself a Sazerac (or your beverage of choice), and get ready for a toe-tapping good time! Register below to join us on Zoom.
