Winter Closure
UAMA will be closed for the holidays from Tuesday, December 24, through Friday, January 17.
We believe in the power of art to spark essential conversations and enhance research at our university and in our community.
A Conversation between Hank Willis Thomas and Jordan D. Schnitzer
Based in New York, Hank Willis Thomas is among the most prominent contemporary artists of the past 25 years. Jordan D. Schnitzer is a Portland, Ore.-based philanthropist and real estate developer recognized among the top 200 art collectors in the world. Since their initial meeting in 2019, not only is Schnitzer the biggest collector of Thomas’ work, but the two men have become dear friends.
Brought together in Tucson by the UAMA exhibition Hank Willis Thomas: LOVERULES, From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, Thomas and Schnitzer look forward to an intimate public conversation covering a range of topics. They will discuss the evolution of Thomas’ art practice over the last 20 years and the various themes he explores – commodity, identity, media and popular culture – as well as Schnitzer’s passion for collecting and what drew him to Thomas’ work in particular.
