Zine Workshop with Artist Phung Huynh

this-is-my-story

Everyone has a story. What's yours?

Join artist Phung Huynh to learn how her work unpacks complicated experiences as a Southeast Asian refugee that influence how she constructs her personal narrative through art. Phung will then facilitate a guided workshop where participants will create small zines about their own stories.

This workshop is presented in tandem with Vault Show: New Acquisitions, an exhibition featuring several works by Phung that recently joined the UAMA permanent collection. The event will be held in the at Asian Pacific American Student Affairs (APASA). Space is limited; please register to join us!

What to expect:

  • Phung will use a series of questions to guide participants in making their own self-portrait zine.
  • Materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring any supplies of their own.
  • Zines will be made from 17” x 11” paper that can be folded into a booklet.
  • Participants will be invited to incorporate other materials through collage, such as food packaging.
  • While crafting our zines, we'll enjoy a playlist created by the group.
  • Participants will share their zine/personal narrative at the end of workshop.
