The European art collection at UAMA consists of paintings, sculpture and works on paper which includes one of the largest donations from the Samuel H. Kress Collection—a gift of sixty-four European paintings and sculpture from the fourteenth through the nineteenth centuries.
Highlights from the Kress Collection include the 26-panel altarpiece of the Cathedral of Ciudad Rodrigo, and paintings by Jusepe de Ribera, Horace Vernet, Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun, and Pacino di Buonaguida. Over the years the European collection has grown to include three hundred early modern engravings, etchings, and drawings by artists such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Albrecht Dürer, Francisco de Goya, and Giovanni Battista Piranesi.
