The exhibition Sargent Claude Johnson recently opened at the Huntington and features two loans from the UAMA collection.
It is the first exhibition devoted to the California artist — whose uplifting portrayals of people of color made him the West Coast’s key connection to the Harlem Renaissance — in over 25 years.
At the same time, two exhibitions opened today that also feature works from the UAMA collection. The Seattle Art Museum's installation of Jaune Quick-to-See Smith: Memory Map features her work Spam, while the Schirn's installation of The Culture features Rozeal's divine selektah...big up.
