Joseph Marsh Sheridan, Self Portrait, 1946, Oil on canvas, Gift of the Artist
Join us for this off-site talk by UAMA docent Gerry Bates!
Selfies are a phenomenon of our time, but the idea of creating snapshots of ourselves is hardly new. For many artists, the self portrait is a critical exploration of personal realization and aesthetic achievement.
From ancient Egypt to today, this program will explore this unique form of artistic expression using artworks from the UAMA permanent collection as examples.
