Luis Jimenez, The Rose Tattoo, 1983, Lithograph/glitter, Gift of the Artist

A native of El Paso, Texas, Luis Jimenez described himself as a Chicano Pop Artist, looking at the west through a Latino lens and reflecting his experiences in a border town.

His use of fiberglass and neon for his sculptures was a deliberate decision to bring art to the average person. He once said, “I have an agenda – art that reaches out to Chicanos and a working-class audience that helps them celebrate their culture and history.”

UAMA Members are invited to learn more about the artist from Mary Jo McMullen, a longtime Jimenez fan who fell in love with his humor and sense of irony. She can't wait to share his story and selections of his artwork with fellow members!
