David Wynne, British sculptor born in 1926, often sculpts figures with animals. You might be aware of his Girl with a Dolphin by Tower Bridge in London. He is best known for realistic, figurative sculptures. This one is an edition meaning that there are identical sculptures in other locations. There is another Girl with Doves (from 1970) in Cadogan Square Gardens in London, England.
Owned and maintained by the UA Libraries, this sculpture has always been in front of the Main Library, but has been moved several times to accommodate various nearby construction projects. One or more doves are missing and should be replaced. The missing plaque is also an example of unfortunate vandalism.
