We believe in the power of art to spark essential conversations and enhance research at our university and in our community.
During the weekly workshop series, youth explore topics of art-making, self-care, community building, and harm reduction.
Since 2014, Mapping Q’s art-based program has created safer spaces for reflection on identity and community for LGBTQIA+ youth through the visual arts.
During the weekly workshop series, youth explore topics of art-making, self-care, community building, and harm reduction. The programs are always free and take place at the UAMA and at various community sites throughout the year. Each year the series culminates in an exhibition of work made LGBTQ+ youth who participated.
Mapping Q participants are invited to submit artwork to the annual exhibition, presented in the museum's Our Stories Community Gallery. The exhibition is a culmination of the Mapping Q series, showcasing the creative resilience of LGBTQIA+ youth artists, who skillfully communicate what it means to identify as LGBTQIA+ today. Check back soon for details on how to submit artwork.
If you are an educator or organization that serves LGBTQ+ youth and would like to host a Mapping Q workshop, please contact Chelsea Farrar, Curator of Community Engagement.
There are no upcoming Mapping Q events scheduled at this time. Please check back soon!
