Gift of Edward Joseph Gallagher, Jr. in memory of Edward Joseph Gallagher, Ann Hay Gallagher, and Edward Joseph Gallagher III

Torso in Space represents a fusion of the classical with the modern. Archipenko’s figure evokes the supple, elegant shape of the classical nude but with a simpler form that seems to float in space. Its clean lines and smooth, reflective surface create a more abstract body, and its sinuous outline produces a rhythmic play of mass and space.
