The UAMA is proud to hold a superb collection of European and American portraits that range in date from the 15th century to the present day. While portraits might seem straightforward, they often reflect the values and ideals of individual societies, illustrating standards of beauty, fashion, and social status. As this exhibit will demonstrate, portraits are not always truthful, and their functions change and evolve over time.
