March 6th, 2015
5 – 7 PM
Join us on Friday, March 6th for FRIDAY NIGHT ART: a night of art, music, and fun. We’ll be celebrating our new exhibitions including “Beauties: The Photography of Andy Warhol” and “Salvador Dali: Our Historical Heritage.”
Friday Night Art is an event of food, dancers, music, lectures, and art activities throughout the evening. Visitors can participate in an Exquisite Corpse: a surrealist method of multiple artists adding to a single rotating composition, in the Dali gallery. Dancers from Fluxx Studio, Arizona’s first and only queer art space, will be performing at 6pm. Music will be provided by DJ Buttafly. Visitors can also enjoy an art scavenger hunt, a raffle for a UAMA membership, and a photobooth in the Warhol gallery.
At 5pm, attend a series of lectures by the UA’s best and brightest. School of Art Interim Director and Associate Professor Martina Shenal will be discussing her professional artwork in a talk titled “Borrowed Views.” Erica Gilliland, M.A. student in Art History and guest curator of the Warhol exhibit, will be discussing her curatorial practices and the museum’s acquisition of the Warhol photographs. And Ed Warner, museum docent, will lead visitors on an in-depth exploration of the 15th century painting The Visitation by the Master of the Catholic Kings.
Visitors can enjoy refreshments including sushi from On A Roll. Admission is free for museum members and UA and Pima students, staff, and faculty with ID, as well as those with a Tribal ID, Snap Card, or Military ID. For non-members there is a suggested $10 donation to benefit the museum’s education programs and exhibitions. Children under 18 are always free at the UAMA. Join as a member and get in for free!
