Artists have been interested in the sky and the heavens for more than a millennium. But the advent of the “space age” has changed the perspective of art. Now an explicit category of ‘space art’ has emerged. We examine earlier art about space then turn to the gift to the Museum by the late Robert McCall whose paintings record the actual and imagined space future.
