More than twenty years after his son, Edward Gallagher III tragically died in an accident at the age of 13, Baltimore businessman, Edward Gallagher, Jr. decided to create a lasting memorial for his young son by establishing a Modern art collection to be enjoyed by future generations. In addition to donating almost 200 works of art, Gallagher also established a generous endowment that allows UAMA to grow its collection. This second phase of Museum Purchases features Modern and Contemporary art purchased in the last thirty years and features works by George Segal, Käthe Kollwitz, and Luis Jiménez.
