Marion Greenwood (American, 1909-1970)
Simple Confession 1940
Oil on board
Gift of C. Leonard Pfeiffer
Marion Greenwood had a distinguished career as an easel and mural painter in the United States and Mexico. She was also one of the few female artists to serve as an artist and war correspondent during World War II.
Like many artists at this time, Greenwood was drawn to urban life, depicting people in ordinary activities in an effort to connect her art with the wider public. An intimate painting, Simple Confession shows a common, yet profound moment of human connection.
