Joseph Scheer's Moths: Flight, Light and Desire
August 17, 2006 - October 8, 2006

Manduca Rustica (sphinx) by Joseph Scheer

Joseph Scheer Manduca rustica (sphinx), 2006
Epson Print on Somerset Satin paper
Gift of Joseph Scheer
2006.001.001

Joseph Scheer's richly saturated images and large-scale prints present moths as mysteriously beautiful and striking. The artist creates an immersive environment that invites viewers to look at these nocturnal creatures in a different light. The examples in this exhibition were collected during the moonless nights of late summer 2004 and 2005, and represent an astonishing range of moths, both common and rare.
