Goya's Mastery in Prints
UAMA presents Goya's Mastery in Prints, a four
exhibition cycle of extraordinary etchings by Francisco de
Goya. These exhibitions celebrate the Spanish master's
revolutionary graphic techniques and profound artistic
influence. On loan from the Meadows Museum at Southern
Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, this is a rare
opportunity to see the four complete first edition print
suites presented in succession.
The first exhibition of Goya's Mastery in Prints, La
Tauromaquia, is the artist's chronicle of the evolution of
bullfighting, from the ancient Spanish sport of hunting bulls to the
graceful art of the 19th century bullfight. The suite includes 33
prints etched on copper plates. The etchings depict both a
retrospective history of bullfighting in Spain, as well as the
techniques and rituals of the bullfighters of Goya's contemporary
moment.
