The Kingan Collection: Mood and Atmosphere in American Art

November 12th, 2005 – February 2nd, 2006

This exhibition presents the works of the Kingan collection, which features a number of American landscapes by Elliot Daingerfield, Charles Harold Davis, and other artists. Samuel L. Kingan donated this collection to the UA Museum of Art in 1952 and, in addition to practicing law and being one of the original signers of the Arizona State Constitution in 1912, was actively involved in the Tucson arts community. He was a member of the Tucson Fine Arts Association (formed in 1924), the Palette and Brush Club of Tucson, and in 1920 wrote and published a series of essays on paintings in his personal collection entitled The Nature of Landscape.
