Student and Faculty Open House

Celebrate art, expression, and all things Museum at our Open House and Exhibition Reception!

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., college students and faculty are encouraged to come and meet curators, enjoy behind-the-scenes tours, and learn about ways to engage with the Museum. Activities like PechaKucha talks by our Portal to the Public participants, live mural painting, and gallery lectures are open to the public.

The public is also invited to join us at 5 p.m. for an Exhibition Reception featuring Picture The World: Burhan Doğançay As Photographer and Richard Slechta: Cascades. UA PhD candidate Taylor Miller will present in conjunction with Picture the World, and artist Richard Slechta will speak about his work.


9:30-10:30 a.m. | Faculty appreciation: Learn from faculty who teach using the Museum and its collection. Coffee and pastries provided.

10:30 a.m. | Behind-the-scenes tour with Museum staff (CatCard required)

1:00 p.m. | Behind-the-scenes tour with Museum staff (CatCard required)

2:30-3:15 p.m. | PoP Talks; a PechaKucha style presentation

3:45-4:30 p.m. | PoP Talks; a PechaKucha style presentation

2:00-6:00 p.m. | Painting with Mel ‘Melo’ Dominguez: Tucson-based artist and muralist Dominguez will be painting a mural on a wall at the Museum. Guests and UA students are invited to watch, ask questions, or join in and paint!

6:00-8:00 p.m. | Music entertainment by DJ Butta Fly

5:00-7:00 p.m. | Opening reception with public talks by artist Richard Slechta and Taylor Miller, PhD candidate in the School of Geography & Development.
