2:00 – 3:00 pm
This talk by UAMA curator Olivia Miller will highlight one of the most significant collections of modern art in the southwest, The Edward Gallagher III Memorial Collection at The University of Arizona Museum of Art. Baltimore businessman, Edward Gallagher, Jr. established this collection to not only honor his son’s memory, but to also provide the people of Tucson and Arizona at large with access to art they would normally see in larger cities. Between 1954 and 1978, almost 200 works of art including pieces by Mark Rothko, Arshile Gorky, Jackson Pollock, and Barbara Hepworth, were delivered periodically to the museum. This lecture will focus on select pieces from this collection, and explore Gallagher as a collector and philanthropist. This event requires an RSVP and is free for members.
