October 22, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Science and art come together in a fun event for the whole family at The University of Arizona Museum of Art. Family Day- Meet a Scientist will be held Saturday, October 22 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
This event brings together the worlds of art and science with hands-on activities, gallery exploration, and more! Scientists from across the U of A will facilitate activities based on their research with topics ranging from Butterflies to Exploding Stars, giving families a chance to experience science in new and more informal ways. Young art and science buffs who visit all of the stations will become “Junior Scientists” and get a special prize. Other activities include a creative art challenge, a scavenger hunt through the galleries, story time, and more! Family Day is a great way for kids and their parents to explore the Museum and experience art together.
The science-based activities are the culmination of a seven week science communication fellowship led by Museum Curators Olivia Miller and Chelsea Farrar. This program is part of an Institute of Museum and Library Sciences grant through Seattle’s Pacific Science Center. Through the grant, partner institutions, including the Museum, learn how to train researchers and scientists to communicate about their work in informal science, art, and history settings.
