Bouquets to Art

Bouquets to Art 2008:
A Celebration of Floral Artistry

During the weekend of March 28-30, 2008 the Museum sponsored a fundraising event, including a competition for the best floral interpretations of a work of art. Professional and amateur designers and floral artists were invited to participate. (list of participants)

Prizes were awarded in three categories: People's Choice, Director's Award, and Curator's Award.

People's Choice Award Winner

The most popular arrangement at Bouquets to Art 2008 was an interpretation of
Late Afternoon Etretat (c. 1956) by Jun Dobashi. The designers, Cynthia Patterson
and Carol Swift of the Lake Forest Garden Club (Illinois), chose this work of art for its
color, texture and simplicity.

This floral arrangement includes anthurium and mitsumata.




Director's Award Winner

The Director's Award Winner is Cathy Grim AIFD, of Inglis Florists, honored
for her floral tribute to Spring (1953) by Karel Appel. Ms. Grim selected this work
for its exciting use of color.

The floral arrangement includes red and yellow variegated parrot tulips,
bird of paradise leaves (painted teal), curly willow (painted black) and
red carnations.




Curator's Award Winner

Friend of the Museum Jodi Jondahl won the Curator's Award for her floral vision
of Around Us--Seven (1982) by Jules Olitski. She picked this painting for its
warmth and bright colors.

The floral arrangement features curly willow, halla leaves, Bells of Ireland,
oncidum orchids, calla lilly and orange ranunculus.
